Super Tuesday was pivotal, but today, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio could decide the candidates.

As we head to the polls to vote, let us not forget the words of Sons of Liberty founder and Founding Father, Mr. Samuel Adams:

“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual – or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.”

This quote, printed in the Boston Gazette on April 16, 1781, inspired Our first t-shirt because we believe voting is an important responsibility.

A fitting quote by which to remember Nancy Reagan:

“To my young friends out there: Life can be great, but not when you can’t see it. So, open your eyes to life: to see it in the vivid colors that God gave us as a precious gift to His children, to enjoy life to the fullest, and to make it count. Say yes to your life.” (emphasis added)

On the morning of February 27, 1776, 1,000 Patriot troops defeated 1,600 British Loyalists in the Battle of Moore’s Creek. It was the first American victory in the first organized campaign of the Revolutionary War. 

An important first step indeed, the agency for which, did not go unnoticed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, and later, the first President of the United States, George Washington. He made that clear in his first inaugural address in 1789:

“No People can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand, which conducts the affairs of men more than the People of the United States. Every step, by which they have advanced to the character of an independent nation, seems to have been distinguished by some token of providential agency. And in the important revolution just accomplished in the system of their United Government, the tranquil deliberations and voluntary consent of so many distinct communities, from which the event has resulted, cannot be compared with the means by which most Governments have been established, without some return of pious gratitude along with an humble anticipation of the future blessings which the past seem to presage.”

On this day in 1980, the U.S. hockey team, made up of college players and regarded as significant underdogs, defeats the four-time defending gold-medal winning Soviet team at the XIII Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York by a final score of 4-3, making it one of the most dramatic upsets in Olympic history.Miracle on Ice

This “Miracle on Ice” was also seen as an ideological victory in the Cold War.

Two days later, the Americans defeated Finland 4-2 to win hockey gold.

 

On this day in 1777, the Continental Congress voted to promote five junior officers ahead of Brigadier General Benedict Arnold. The Connecticut-born hero of Saratoga felt slighted, and threatened to resign from the Patriot army.

In 1780, Arnold betrayed the United States by offering to hand over the Patriot-held fort at West Point, New York, to the British.

In George Washington’s General Orders, in September of 1780, Washington said:
“Happily the treason has been timely discovered to prevent the fatal misfortune. The providential train of circumstances which led to it affords the most convincing proof that the Liberties of America are the object of divine Protection.”

According to national folklore, Benedict Arnold’s last words were: “Let me die in this old uniform in which I fought my battles. May God forgive me for ever having put on another.”

George Washington Invisible Hand reveal

This is the artwork for our upcoming George Washington “Invisible Hand” t-shirt, to be released on April 30, the day of his inaugural address in 1798, from which the design’s quote was taken.

Today is the federal holiday Washington’s Birthday, though it is widely known as Presidents Day. Thus, I chose today to reveal the artwork for Our upcoming George Washington “Invisible Hand” t-shirt.

At his Inaugural Address on April 30, 1789 George Washington stated:

“No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand which conducts the affairs of men more than the People of the United States.”

I could not agree more.

The shirt will be royal blue, with a light gray figure and signature. The sword, modeled after Washington’s battle sword, will be metallic silver. The font is based on Washington’s own handwriting, except for the second “People” which is clearly inspired by the United States Constitution.
Look closely and you’ll also find a tribute to the Washington Monument.

George Washington Inaugural Address 1789 "invisible hand"

In honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States, who was born on February 22, 1732, Washington’s Birthday was the first federal holiday to honor an American president, and was originally established in 1885.

The holiday was celebrated on Washington’s actual birthday, but on January 1, 1971, it was shifted to the third Monday in February by the Uniform Monday Holiday Act.

As a result, it can occur the 15th through the 21st inclusive.

Although it is widely known as Presidents Day and is often an occasion to remember all the presidents, it is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government.

“GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!”

Most of us are familiar with this quote from Patrick Henry, a Founding Father.

On this day in 1776, he became colonel of the First Virginia battalion.

Now, here are some other portions of the speech which contains the famous quote above:
